IRS Awards 501(c)(3) status
To the Mountain Ranch Community Club
At last, the people that donate to our non-profit Park, Town Hall and Scholarship funds are getting the recognition that they deserve, especially from the IRS where it really matters. Nothing has changed in any of these organizations except for some minor legal terminology and the tax deductibility.
Back in 2007, Mountain Ranch Community Club began the quest with the IRS to change the Club status from 501(c)(4) to 501(c)(3). Then, President Lee Johnson along with other club members spear-headed the effort to change the tax status with the IRS.
The club seemed to hit every road block known to man, however we persevered. After many rewrites, the articles of incorporation met with State approval.
The initial IRS application was over 30 pages long. After submission, it was followed by the usual government specifications, lost paperwork, changing IRS Supervisors, and new rules in the middle of the process. To make a long story short, the club has at last been granted C-3 status from the IRS.
The application was approved retroactive to the initial application date which was November 30, 2008. Now, if you itemize your income tax, you can take a deduction for donations to any of the following funds: Park, Community Club, or Scholarship. “Club dues” are counted as donations. “Appreciation donations” for special use of the Hall or Park are also tax deductible.
It is not too late to make a donation for this year. Mail to POB 122, Mountain Ranch, 95246 and specify which fund you are donating to. The Treasurer will get it to the right fund.
Since 1931 the Community Club has owed its existence to the support of the people of the Mountain Ranch area and we look forward to your continued support.
